Free Colorful, Printable 100 Chart

I made this for Damien (age 2 years, 2 months) recently, as he is really into numbers and counting.

I don’t ask him to count out loud too often, as I usually count for him, but apparently he can count pretty high, especially when he is looking at written numerals.

So far he has spontaneously counted to about 40, and also has counted by 10’s to 90 (while looking at the chart).

This chart matches the color scheme of the number line I made a while back, which Damien also loves to count on.

The number line is great, but as always, it is good to get to see numbers organized in different ways in order to understand their properties and relationships more clearly: objects in piles, in a straight line (number line), or in this case, organized in rows and columns.

One of the great things about hundred charts is that it makes it very easy to see and understand the  relationship between numbers in our base-ten system. Looking at the second row, for example, you can see 2, 12, 22, 32, 42, etc, and it is easy to understand the concept of adding or subtracting by 10’s as moving up or down a certain amount of rows.

There are lots more ways a 100 chart can come in handy throughout your child’s years in learning primary mathematics, too many to list here perhaps. Let’s Play Math has a great article on “20+ Things to Do With a Hundred Chart” if you’re interested in some more possibilities.

    Hi Domanmom, will you be doing in-depth posts this fall about your academic goals and plans for the boys this year? Have you found a few items that you really like and will be using to build off of for your subjects?

    I am looking for the information as to what distance the Bit cards should be shown from the child? I know Doman must have it is his book but I don’t have a book right now. Thank you.
