Many of my flash cards were purchased from local dollar stores, sorry I don’t really have more suggestions for you! Brillkids.com offers quite a few free flash cards you can download if you are interested.

    Hi Doman mom,

I am really hoping you can help me out with my query. I am an aid fan of your website and a member of Brill Kids forum so I see your posts there as well. I have a two year old son I am accelerating academically and physically and just recently gave up my job as a teacher to homeschool. As we still need some extra income I am starting a home day care business and I naturally will have an strong EL (and attachment parenting) approach in what I do with the kids in my care. My question is this: I know you run a home day care yourself, do your parents know you are the Doman mom and is this part of why they chose you? I want to know if emphasizing this will put me out of touch with most parents. That being said I am planning to keep a 1:3 ratio so I don’t need that many to ‘get it’ but wouldn’t want a market position that alienated too many people.

I appreciate how busy you are with your two little ones but would be very grateful for any kind of response based on your personal experience.

When I originally planned to start doing daycare my intention was to heavily market that I was a Doman / early learning program as a selling point. However when I started doing daycare through the Navy there ended up being very little direct marketing and most of the families who came to me were simply referred to me through the office. For the most part the parents who came to me were more interested in whether my schedule worked with theirs than they were with the fact that I could offer a lot for their child education wise, however many parents did see the environment I had set up (lots of educational posters and toys, mentioning the fact that I homeschool) as a “nice bonus”. Even though with me, most of the parents weren’t MAINLY focused on the educational aspects, almost all of the parents seemed to appreciate the environment, and there wasn’t a single person I worked with who seemed turned off by the educational aspect of my program. I think most parents do appreciate it and think, “Oh how nice” even if that isn’t what they were directly looking for, and I never had a problem with it alienating people. So from my experience, most parents did appreciate it in the long run, but that wasn’t the main reason they came to me or chose me, most were simply needing a “babysitter” and saw the rest as a nice extra. I should mention that I never did mention the name “Doman” (no body really knew who he was) and more so just described some of the activities we did and our schedule. Good luck in your endeavors!

    Hi,
My name is swathi. I have 2 daughters. My older one is 3yrs old and the younger one is 7months old. I recently came to know about early learning. I read the book How smart is your baby. My question is I don’t know where to start from. Since I read the book is says my baby should to able to cross pattern crawling but she doesn’t do that. She has started to sit straight now. What kind of activities I should do with her now. Should I start doing words with her now or the bits of intelligence cards. where can I find flash cards what you showed your son Damien. Thanks for the animals flash cards upload, if you have more flash cards can you please send me. In what kind of paper do you print the flash cards. Sorry for the long message. Waiting for your reply.
    Swathi.

Hello! I don’t have a great deal of flash cards available just yet, a lot of mine were created from books or were purchased at the dollar store. Brillkids.com has a lot of flash cards that you can print for free if you would like to check them out. I print most of my flash cards that I make on card stock paper. As for activities, there are lots of things in the book “How Smart is Your Baby” that you can use. If your baby isn’t crawling yet, just make sure you give her lots of opportunity on the floor and encourage her to crawl by putting toys just out of reach, playing with her on the floor, and so on. The book has lots of other suggestions for helping your baby develop. As for whether you should start words or bit cards first, Doman recommends always starting your child with reading first, as reading is the most important thing to all learning and often if your child starts with bits first they will not be interested in the “plain” words. Doman’s other books about reading, math, encyclopedic knowledge, and fitness are likely available at your local library and have many more thorough suggestions for starting to teach your baby. I hope this was helpful to you!

Sara, Glenn Doman’s “Fit Baby, Smart Baby, Your Baby” (previously titled “How to Teach Your Baby to Be Physically Superb”) has a wide variety of exercises and recommendations for children between birth and age 6. If you are able to check one of those out at your local library, I am sure you will find some great ideas! If not, any physical activities are beneficial – walking and running every day, crawling, climbing, rolling, somersaults, jump rope – anything that gets your child moving in different ways and learning to be oriented in different positions in space is great!
