Milestone: Taking Self to Potty for First Time When Needing to Go (13 months)

DSC_0321_new

Damien was playing today when I noticed him pause for a moment, which usually happens when he needs to go. But then, without any prompting, he just walked over to his potty, sat down, and had a bowel movement. He has gone on the potty lots of times his whole life, but this is the first time he recognized he needed to go, and took himself, without any help.

He turned 13 months and 2 weeks old today.

So proud of him!

“And thou shalt rejoice in every good thing which the LORD thy God hath given unto thee…”
Deuteronomy 26:11

Damien is 13 months, 2 weeks old

Cool! When we were “on a roll” with using the potty after naps and nursing at about 9 or 10 months, my son walked over to the bathroom a handful of times when he needed to pee. But we kind of got less consistent and had some traveling, so it didn’t “stick”. He did potty train earlier than many of his friends, we had the bulk of the learning done before his little brother arrived so that was nice.
I’ve enjoyed reading your posts (found you through a Pinterest pin about swimming with infants).

Even though I have followed GRhomeschooling for about 2 years now, I never knew that this site existed. Even though I knew you had start your own website as a new year goal….

I transferred all the content a few weeks ago, was double posting for a while (posting the same post on this site as well as the other site) and hopefully will soon have the other site and feed redirected to here. I guess I have just gotten caught up in doing things with this site and have neglected the other one. :(

That is wonderful! Was he wearing training pants at the time? I’m curious. Thank you for your blog!

He was actually going diaper free at the time. Sometimes I put him in underwear and sometimes he just wears a disposable diaper and I take them off when I notice him looking like he is about to go, or when he goes and sits on the potty I will take them off. I don’t know when that milestone will come (being able to pull down own pants), but hopefully not too long from now!

I can’t believe everything you’re doing with your 13 month old!! I just found this site today and I’ve been reading through it and this is incredible! I babysit a now 1 year old and I’m unsure how your little one is doing all this when the 12 month old I watch can’t walk yet let alone understand what’s a potty and why he should use it! Wow!!
